Austin Peay State University Football’s Red and White Game this Saturday at Governors Stadium

Austin Peay State University Governors SportsClarksville, TN – The annual Red-White Spring football game will be held 11:00am, Saturday , in Governors Stadium.

The contest will serve as the culmination of Austin Peay State University’s first spring practice under new head coach Kirby Cannon.

It will be APSU’s third spring scrimmage. The first scrimmage was completely situational while the second was less scripted, with drives being allowed to continue.

This Saturday’s scrimmage could be affected by a depth situation at quarterback. Jacob Sexton suffered a thigh injury in last Saturday’s scrimmage. Earlier in the week, freshman quarterback Gage Scurlock elected to leave the program. As a result, redshirt freshman walk-on Timarious Mitchell has been getting almost all the repetitions in practice this week.

The quarterback situation notwithstanding, the Governors injury situation has improved as spring practice rolls to a close. Starting offensive tackle Ben Stansfield, who injured a wrist weightlifting in the offseason, has been cleared for contact. Starting offensive guard Chris Hartman, who has been troubled with back issues, also has returned in a limited capacity. Running back Reco Williams was able to scrimmage last Saturday and has been involved in contact work this week.

After being off Wednesday, the Governors will practice in full pads on Thursday before a pad-less Friday practice leads up to Saturday.
