Ohio Valley ConferenceDickson, TN – Jessica Cathey, who joined the Austin Peay State University women’s golf team starting lineup as a freshman and became the Lady Govs’ top golfer, has been named All-Ohio Valley Conference as well as being named to the league’s All-Newcomer team.

She entered the OVC tournament owning a 78.5 strokes-per-round scoring average. After an uncharacteristic struggling tournament at Eastern Kentucky earlier this month, she bounced with a trio of solid rounds in dual matches, including a season-best 1-under 71, Monday, at the Clarksville Country Club in APSU’s win against Belmont. She also had the Lady Govs’ top round, Sunday, with a 78.

“It is exciting for Jessica to be named to both the all newcomer and all OVC teams,” APSU coach Sara Robson said. “It is well deserved after the year she has had. As a freshman she came in and made an immediate impact on our program. She is a very determined to reach her goals and works hard on strengthening her weaknesses.”

Cathey becomes the fifth Lady Gov to earn All-OVC as a freshman, the first since Chelsea Harris did so in 2008. The team includes Morehead State’s Appert Lund, the Freshman of the Year, and three repeat selections from last year in Morehead State senior Marisa Kamelgarn, Murray State junior Delaney Howson and Murray State senior Alexandra Lennartsson. The team also includes Belmont senior Janet Steen, Eastern Kentucky senior April Emerson, Jacksonville State sophomore Maya Parsons, Morehead State sophomore Vanessa Bognot and Morehead State freshman Katie Rice.

The All-Newcomer team included Cathey, Lund, Jacksonville State’s Parsons and Morehead State’s Rice. The All-Newcomer squad was rounded out by Eastern Kentucky freshman Anna Glexiner and Morehead State freshman Linnea Scholin.
