Nashville Sounds defeat Iowa Cubs at Greer Stadium 3-1

 

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – The Nashville Sounds overcame an early deficit Friday night at Greer Stadium to defeat the visiting Iowa Cubs, 3-1, and pick up their first winning series of the year. The victory is Nashville’s third consecutive and marks the team’s longest streak of the season.

Tied 1-1 in the seventh, the Sounds attacked Iowa’s starting pitcher Yoanner Negrin (0-2) for two runs, which proved to be the difference. Stephen Parker, 2-for-4, led off the inning with a single into right field and scored the go-ahead run on Josh Prince’s double to the left-field corner.

Austin Peay State University Baseball to face Indiana Saturday in NCAA Tournament

 

Austin Peay State University Governors SportsBloomington, IN – Austin Peay State University’s baseball team earlier today defeated the Florida Gators 5-3 in the opening round of the 2013 NCAA Baseball Championship’s Bloomington Regional to advance in the winners bracket. Indiana defeated Valparaiso 15-4 to advance to the winners bracket as well.

5th Special Forces Group “Legion” dedicates building at Fort Campbell in honor of Sgt. 1st Class Eugene Ashley

 

5th Special Forces

Fort Campbell, KY – Soldiers, families and friends from 3rd Battalion, 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne), also known as The Legion, gathered together on the morning of May 23rd, to pay tribute to a former member of the unit.

The tribute was in the form of the newly dedicated battalion operations complex, now named Ashley Hall, for 3rd Bn., 5th SFG (A), in honor of Sgt. 1st Class Eugene Ashley, a Medal of Honor recipient who paid the ultimate sacrifice in order to save the lives of others. Ashley was represented at the ceremony by his son, retired Army Sgt. 1st Class Darrin Ashley, his daughter-in-law, granddaughter and nephew.

Former APSU Football Coach James “Boots” Donnelly selected to National Football Foundation (NFF) Division College Hall of Fame

 

Austin Peay State University Governors SportsClarksville, TN – The only coach to lead Austin Peay State University football to an Ohio Valley Conference championship has been selected to the 2013 National Football Foundation (NFF) Division College Hall of Fame.

James “Boots” Donnelly, who directed APSU to the 1977 OVC Football Championship during his two-year Governors stint before building Middle Tennessee into a then 1-AA football powerhouse, was one of seven members of the NFF Division College Hall of Fame Class that includes the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision, Divisions II, III and National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).

Clarksville Parks and Recreation reports Smith Pool Closed for Repair

 

Clarksville Parks and RecreationClarksville, TN – Due to a problem with the drainage system, the Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department has temporarily closed Smith Pool, located at 742 Greenwood Avenue.  Once repaired, the pool will reopen to normal operating hours.

We ask that the public refrain from using the pond at Liberty Park beginning at 6:00am on Monday, June 3rd through 2:00pm on Monday, June 10th.

APSU Governors Baseball has four players named to Louisville Slugger All-America Teams

 

Austin Peay State University Governors SportsTuscon, AZ – Four Austin Peay State University baseball players were named to the 2013 Louisville Slugger All-America Teams as selected by Collegiate Baseball June 30th.

Junior first baseman Craig Massoni and senior outfielder Cody Hudson were second-team All-America selections – the program’s first second-team honorees since pitcher Rowdy Hardy earned second team honors in 2005.
