APSU Lady Govs Softball closes season with trip to Murray State

Austin Peay State University Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s softball team closes out its 2013 regular season with a three-game Ohio Valley Conference weekend series at Murray State.

Weather permitting, the series will start for the Lady Govs (18-24, 9-15 OVC) with a noon, Saturday doubleheader and conclude with a 1:00pm, Sunday single game.

Austin Peay also enters the season’s final weekend with still hope to attain an OVC post-season tournament berth for the first time since 2007—the Lady Govs trail eighth-place Morehead State by two games.

The series also will be the final regular-season games for three Lady Govs seniors – Morgan Brewer (P), Jessica Ryan (OF) and Shelby Norton (3B).

The Lady Govs are led offensively by junior Lauren de Castro, who enters the weekend with a .394 batting average that includes 11 doubles, four triples and eight home runs. She also leads the team with 32 runs scored and 32 RBI.

Fellow junior Kayla Davidson also enters the final weekend with a .300-plus batting average, coming in at .336 with 11 doubles and six home runs. She has 25 RBI and 21 runs scored.

In the circle, de Castro leads the Lady Govs pitching staff with a 9-11 win-loss record and a 3.55 ERA with 70 strikeouts in 138 innings of work.

Brewer is 7-10 overall in 105 innings pitched with a 4.67 ERA and 49 strikeouts.

Murray State (21-26, 12-10 OVC) is led offensively by Alexa Becker, who is hitting .319 with five doubles and 12 home runs.

CheyAnne Gaskey leads the Racers pitchers, with a 12-8 record and a 2.75 ERA with 138 strikeouts in 152.2 inning of work.
