Tennessee Department of Education to Grant Signing and Retention Bonuses to Highly Effective Teachers
Nashville, TN – The Tennessee Department of Education today announced a new package of financial incentives to help recruit and retain the most effective teachers to work in the state’s lowest performing schools.
Effective immediately, the department is offering funds to districts to pay $7,000 signing bonuses to every new teacher with a Level 5 rating on evaluation and, where available, value-added scores, who is brought into a Priority School for the 2013-14 school year. «Read the rest of this article»

Clarksville, TN – Clarksville Police report Carl Whiteside was booked into the Montgomery County Jail yesterday for the Homicide of Patrice Smith. The incident occurred at 26a Lincoln Homes on April 7th, 2013.
Mr. Whiteside, was original fighting extradition in California where he turned himself in, but agreed to return before the Governor made a request to have him returned to the California Governor. The case is now in the hands of the District Attorney’s Office.

Clarksville, TN – Clarksville Gas and Water construction crews will close both westbound lanes on Providence Boulevard between E Street and Peachers Mill Road from 11:00pm. Thursday evening until 6:00am. Friday morning. Weather permitting; crews plan to repair a water main on Providence Boulevard closing the road for 6-7 hours.
The center lane will be designated for westbound traffic. Motorists should be alert to high visibility directional signs and exercise caution when approaching the work zone.

Clarksville, TN – The Clarksville Police Department is currently investigating an alleged Attempted Kidnapping of an 11 year old boy that occurred this morning in the Paradise Hill Road, and Hietts Lane area.

The Fashion Advisory Board is made up of high school students who have a passion for fashion, retail and marketing. The program is open to any current high school students with a minimum 3.0 GPA.

Nashville, TN – The Nashville Sounds picked up a 5-2 win over the Fresno Grizzlies Wednesday morning at Greer Stadium, in front of a season-high 10,079 fans in attendance for the second of three Sounds Education Days.
Tied 2-2 in the seventh with runners on the corners and one out, shortstop Blake Davis, who was already two-for-two on the day, lofted a ball into left field for a sacrifice-fly to drive in the go-ahead run. With his single and triple earlier in the game, Davis improves his hit streak to seven games.
