APSU Athlete of the Week Craig Massoni

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Junior first baseman Craig Massoni, of the Austin Peay State University baseball team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.

His two-run home run in Game 1 tied the game in the ninth inning and forced extra innings, with the Govs winning in the 10th; it was his team-best 10th home run in 2013. He also had a two-run single in the second game and had an RBI double in Game 3.

For his efforts, Massoni was named adidas® Ohio Valley Conference Co-Player of the Week, his season’s second weekly honor.

The Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week is selected by the APSU Sports Information staff each Tuesday during the academic year. Copies in a Flash, of Clarksville, sponsors the award.

Other notable performances by Austin Peay athletes included

  • Senior Chantelle Grey, of the track and field team, won the 800m run at the OVC Outdoor Championships in Charleston, IL, Saturday. Her 2:10.85 run was nearly a second faster than her closest competition, and enabled her to become the first runner since Eastern Illinois’ Megan Gingerich in 2010 to win both the indoor and outdoor 800m championship in the same season. She also ran a leg of the Lady Govs fourth-place 4x400m relay outing.
  • Senior closer Tyler Rogers, of the baseball team, factored in the decision in all three wins against Morehead State. The Littleton, CO, native picked up the Govs Game 1 win against Morehead State, holding the Eagles scoreless in the 10th inning. He recorded four-out saves in the final two games against Morehead State, allowing just three hits total in 3.2 innings work on the weekend. He lowered his season ERA to a microscopic 1.85, best among Govs with at least 15 innings pitched in 2013.
