Austin Peay State University’s 16th Annual APSU Ladies Golf Tournament a success

Clarksville, TN – The quartet of Cindy Taylor, Gina Deere, Tonya Wells and Christy Glaser shot a 10-uner par 62 to win the 16th Annual Ladies Golf Tournament, Wednesday, at Swan Lake Golf Course.

The four-person scramble was sponsored by Austin Peay State University to raise awareness for women’s athletics.

“We appreciate all the ladies that came out and played,” said Austin Peay women’s golf head coach Sara Robson. “We have a lot of the same people come back every year and that makes the event special. Swan Lake and Jeff Vaughn’s staff did a great job and thankfully the rain held off and we had a successful event.”

The winning team was equaled in the first flight by the 62 put up by the foursome of Robson, Donna Burkhead, Lisa Bremer and Kay Rottman but the Taylor-Deere-Ruggles-Osborn quartet was victorious on a scorecard play-off based on the final three holes. They edged out the 67 shot by Denise McMillan, Marilyn Willis, Glenda Newport and Shirley Abel.

In the second flight, the team of Marie Short-Sandra Lawrence-Judy Linville-Linda Bradford were crowned champions, edging out a Betty Stanton-Sherrie Smith-June Nicholson-Jackie Jones quartet (second) and the team of Beth Newkirk, Robin Lawhorn, Paula Morton and Kim Crowder.

Denise McMillan won the long-drive contest on No. 6, while Debbie Guynn had the longest drive on No. 14.

Cindy Taylor, who was on the winning team in flight one for the second straight year, was closest to the pin at No. 13, while Laura Bremer was closest to the flag on No. 10.

The winners of both flights won $75.00 per person, with runner-up taking $50.00 and third-place getting $30.00. The longest-drive and closest to the hole winners were awarded $25.00 gift cards.
