Overview and Understanding Common Core State Standards

The Common Sense CoalitionClarksville, TN – A presentation on Common Core Standards will be held on Wednesday, June 26th at 7:00pm in the Pinnacle. This event is sponsored by the Common Sense Coalition and features Lauri Day as the guest speaker.

Lauri Day was the Republican candidate for the 74th district seat in the Tennessee State House of Representatives. She has been traveling around the state educating the public about Common Core since January.

Nashville Sounds get 5-3 win over New Orleans Zephyrs

 

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN - The Nashville Sounds rode the arm of starting pitcher Zach Kroenke (4-8) Monday night at Greer Stadium to hold off the New Orleans Zephyrs in the series finale, avoiding the four-game series sweep with the 5-3 victory.

Kroenke, in his first start since June 2nd, held the Zephyrs scoreless through six innings of work to pick up his fourth win and fourth quality start in his last five starts for Nashville. The lefty fired six strikeouts to New Orleans, allowing only three hits and one walk. He tossed 69 pitches, 47 for strikes.

APSU Lady Govs head coach Carrie Daniels adds experienced Dean Walsh to coaching staff

 

Austin Peay State University Governors Sports - APSUClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s basketball head coach Carrie Daniels has announced the addition of Dean Walsh to her coaching staff for the 2013-14 season, effective Monday.

Walsh, who was an associate head coach at Gardner-Webb last season, fills the position left vacant by the departure of Jessica Grayson last fall and joins assistant coaches Brooke Armistead and Jerome Jackson on Daniels’ staff.

Fundraiser at Hilltop Supermarket for Ashley Travis and Kylie Eastin a Big Success

 

Hilltop SupermarketClarksville, TN – On Saturday, June 15th at Hilltop Supermarket, a community fundraiser was held for Ashley Travis and Kylie Eastin from 9:00am until 2:00pm. There was a car wash, bake sale, games, inflatables, face painting, fire trucks, food and music.

The event was a huge success as the community came out and banded together to raise $23,280 for the girls.

Clarksville Police conduct Death Investigation at 949 Silty Drive

 

Clarksville Police DepartmentClarksville, TN – The Clarksville Police Department is conducting a Death Investigation at 949 Silty Drive. The Department is treating it like all unattended deaths and processed it like any death scene.

At this time it appears to be natural causes, but the Department will wait for confirmation from Medical Examiner.

Brain Health A-Z present by the Alzheimer's AssociationClarksville, TN – The Mid South Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association will be putting on a health expo “Brain Health A to Z” Saturday, August 17th at First Baptist Church. This health expo will be open from 9:00am until 1:00pm.

“Brain Health A to Z” is for the community to learn more about brain health and Alzheimer’s disease/dementia. Some may have a loved one with Alzheimer’s, a family history of Alzheimer’s or may just be interested in brain health.  Attendees may come and go as they wish.

Clarksville, TN – If you haven’t read Rheta Grimsley Johnson’s books, you’re missing several great reads. Her latest, Hank Hung the Moon (NewSouth Books, Montgomery, Alabama: 2012), is a description of the influence of Hank Williams on Southern life and Southerners in particular

A finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for commentary, Johnson writes a column that appears in about 50 newspapers throughout the U.S. She has reported for United Press International, the Memphis Commercial Appeal, and the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Some of her other awards include the Ernie Pyle Memorial Award for human interest writing, the Headliner Award for commentary, and the American Society of Newspaper Editors’ Distinguished Writing Award for commentary.
