Austin Peay State University posts best-ever finish in Sports Director’s Cup

APSU - Austin Peay State University SportsClarksville, TN – Thanks to an impressive spring burst, Austin Peay State University finished the 2012-13 campaign with its best-ever finish in the Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup.

The Govs used national tournament appearances in baseball, men’s golf and men’s tennis to post a total of 108.5 points, good for 151st nationally. It topped the program’s 167th-place finish in 1995-96 – a season that also saw three teams reach the NCAA tournament.

Austin Peay finished second in the standings among Ohio Valley Conference members. The Govs trailed only Eastern Illinois (123 points) for the league’s top spot.

The Learfield Sports Directors Cup is a program that honors institutions maintaining a broad-based program, achieving success in many sports, both men’s and women’s. Began in 1993-94 for Division I by National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics and USA Today, it was expanded in 1995-96 to include Division II, III and the NAIA and, in 2011-12, expanded to the junior/community colleges.
