Fort Campbell’s Campbell Crossing Utility Team Recognized for Education and Innovation

Fort Campbell's Campbell CrossingFort Campbell, KY – The Utility team at Campbell Crossing, Lend Lease’s privatized family housing community on Fort Campbell, was recognized with two awards at a recent Utilities Manager Conference.

The Excellence in Education Award went to Kyle Chandler, Residential Billing Coordinator at Campbell Crossing. Kyle has exemplified what it is to go above and beyond in pursuing ways to educate Residents.

Kyle’s communication with Residents has been vital and effective in educating Residents in energy reduction measures at Campbell Crossing. Recently Kyle initiated the Synergy video which is to be implemented throughout the Lend Lease Portfolio.

The video addresses rising cost of energy and the importance for all of us to work on reducing our dependence on foreign oil. Fort Campbell sees this video as a valuable asset for move in days showing New Residents energy saving tips.

Excellence in Innovation was awarded to Danny Roberts, Utilities Manager at Campbell Crossing. Danny has shown
great determination in researching new and innovative ideas to reduce energy, water, and gas consumption across
the portfolio.

One way he has accomplished this is by running pilot programs at no cost to the project. Danny implemented the E3 (NexGEMS) system where he partnered with E3 to establish a pilot project on 20 homes. The system was implemented to study Residents lifestyles and see where energy savings could be found.

They found energy savings could be recognized by monitoring the thermostats and cycling the hot water heater. Additionally, E3 has been monitoring the cycle/run times of all refrigerators to help identify possible problems early to help with maintenance costs and energy usage.

Once the results of the E3 system showed substantial savings, Campbell Crossing decided to expand their project. Danny worked with a HEC grant writer in an effort to conserve Campbell Crossing’s resources and they were awarded $250,000 for the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservations (TDEC) Grant.
