The City of Clarksville Celebrates first Independence Day at Liberty Park

City of ClarksvilleClarksville, TN – Well over 20,000 people packed the Liberty Park and surrounding areas for the City of Clarksville’s 6th annual July 3rd Independence Day Celebration, one of the most popular events hosted by the city each year. The event helps the residents are Clarksville Tennessee sharpen their patriotic fervor for the Fourth of July holiday.

This was the first time that the City of Clarksville’s July 3rd Celebration had been held at Liberty Park. “I think this is just fantastic,” said Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan when Clarksville online caught up with her during the evening. “I know everyone is having a great time as they spend the evening down here at Liberty Park! I think we’ve started a new tradition for Clarksville, July 3rd at Liberty Park”

Before the fireworks started Mayor McMillan hopped on stage to say a few words.

This years celebration was sponsored by the City of Clarksville and U.S. Bank.

The evening kicked off with music by the Brio String Ensemble, features of five talented members of the Compton family; Curtis (Age13, viola), Mitchell (Age 8, violin), Alyssa (Age 11, violin), Tommy (Age 11, violin), and Trevor (Age 16, cello). The classically trained siblings are students of the Austin Peay University Community School of the Arts, and are principal members of the Grace Note Youth Orchestra. They began performing as a family ensemble in 2010, and play a variety of instrumental music including classical, hymns, folk and bluegrass.

They were followed on stage by the always popular local band, the Beagles, who entertained the crowd with a string of classic rock favorites which had the audience young and old dancing on the great lawn in front of the stage.

I spoke to people who had come to Clarksville from throughout the region to enjoy the fireworks, including Ray Reagon who had traveled to Clarksville from Nashville to be able to watch the Fireworks with his family.

“My trip down from Nashville was nice and pleasant,” said Ray Reagon as we exchanged a few pleasantries. “My family and I are down here enjoying our time at Liberty Park, as we wait for the fireworks to start!” This was not Ray’s first visit to our city, “I occasionally come down to Clarksville to participate in Jazz on the Lawn at Beachaven Vineyard and Winery, and decided this would be another opportunity day for us to come down and enjoy a wonderful summer afternoon in Clarksville.”

In addition to musical entertainment, vendors offered a variety of festival foods, including kettle corn, hotdogs, smoothies, homemade ice cream, cheesecake on a stick, shaved ice, schnitzel and more.

The Fireworks are the perfect close to the nights festivities and this year they lasted for over 20 minutes and featured some of the largest fireworks shells ever to be shot off at the City of Clarksville’s Independence Day Celebration. This years celebration certainly didn’t disappoint!
