APSU has 160 Student-Athletes named to Athletics Director’s Honor Roll

APSU - Austin Peay State University SportsClarksville, TN – For all the success found on the field of play during the 2012-13 spring semester, Austin Peay State University student-athletes were just as successful in the classroom.

The department saw 160 student-athletes earn spots on the Spring 2013 Athletics Director’s Honor Roll with a 3.0 GPA or better, a figure that makes up roughly 53 percent of the department’s 299 qualified athletes. Among these, 34 were named to the President’s List – reserved for student’s with a 4.0 GPA – and 83 earned GPA’s of 3.5 or better that placed them on the Dean’s List.

Overall, the department enjoyed a 2.906 GPA overall, with eight squads – women’s soccer, women’s basketball, softball, men’s tennis, women’s tennis, women’s golf, volleyball and pom squad – posting team GPA’s of 3.0 or higher. Lady Gov athletic squads in particular posted a strong spring, tallying a 3.272 overall mark.

The football team led the department with 32 total honorees, including 13 players on the Dean’s List. A department-high six student-athletes – Josh Carroll, Kyle Harrison, Adam Noble, Iosua Siliva, Ben Stansfield and Gavin Willisson – earned spots on the President’s List.

The volleyball team led all women’s sports with a 3.621 team GPA, putting 11 of 12 student-athletes on the AD Honor Roll. Half the squad found spots on the Dean’s List and four – Calyn Hull, Liz Landon, Hillary Plybon and Jada Stotts – were named to the President’s List.

Women’s basketball, women’s golf, women’s soccer and men’s tennis also dominated in the classroom. Eleven of 15 Lady Gov basketball players had GPA’s of 3.0 or higher, including 4.0’s from Kaitlyn Hill, Nicole Olszewski and Jennifer Nwokocha that resulted in a 3.453 mark for the team. All 11 also found spots on the Dean’s List.

Six of seven Lady Gov golfers were AD Honor Roll honorees – the team earned a 3.494 spring GPA – with Holly Batey, Tabitha Beard and Rachel Deaton earning President’s List honors.

Eighteen members of the Lady Govs soccer team (3.114 team GPA) earned spots on the AD’s Honor Roll, with more than half the roster (12 players) earning a spot on the Dean’s List and five (Jazzmine Chandler, Jocelyn Murdoch, Emily Perkins, Claire Pultz and Andy Quiceno) who wound up on the President’s List.

The men’s tennis team equaled the women’s soccer President’s List tally, with Sean Bailey, Dimitar Ristovski, Iago Seffrin, John Storie and Aleksas Tverijonas netting 4.0 GPA’s. The Governor’s tennis team posted a 3.678 GPA as a squad, tops among men’s sports for the spring semester.

Established in 1990-91, the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll recognizes the outstanding academic accomplishments of Austin Peay State University student-athletes. To earn recognition student-athletes must achieve at least a 3.0 grade-point average for a semester.
