Clarksville Parks and Recreation Report for July 14th, 2013

Clarksville Parks and RecreationClarksville, TN – The weekly Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department Recreation Report provides Clarksvillians with a glimpse at the activities and events that are available from the Parks and Recreation Department for them to enjoy together as a family.

This weeks highlights include: Youth Flag Football League, Back to School Splash, Wonder Kids Triathlon, “Rally on the Cumberland” Canoe and Kayak Race, and Riverfest 2013.

Youth Flag Football League

Youth Co-Ed Flag FootballRegister now for the Youth Flag Football League! Pre-registration for ages 5-17 can be completed online at recpro.cityofclarksville.com or at the Clarksville Parks and Recreation Main Office, on or before July 19th.

Cost is $65.00 or $60.00 for participants in the Flag Football Clinics held this summer, and includes a shirt and medal.

Practices are set to begin July 29th and games to start August 24th.

Wonder Kids Triathlon

Wonder Kids TriathlonDon’t miss the first-ever Wonder Kids Triathlon, presented by Jack in the Box and the City of Clarksville, to be held August 3rd! This event is open to boys and girls ages 3-12 and will take place at the New Providence Pool and surrounding property.

Participants will complete three legs of the event, swimming, biking and running.  Courses vary depending on age:

  • 3-5Yrs: 25m Swim, 300yd Bike, 100yd Run
  • 6-8Yrs: 50m Swim, 600yd Bike, 300yd Run
  • 9-12Yrs: 100m Swim, 1mile Bike, 1/2mile Run

All floatation devices must be Coast Guard approved.

Cost is $25.00 per child.  Pre-registration is required with a limit of 100 participants in this year’s event so register early! Cost covers t-shirt, medal, swim cap and goodie bag. Registration can be completed at recpro.cityofclarksville.com, at our Community Centers or Main Office, no later than July 29th.

Back to School Splash

Clarksville Parks and Recreation's Back to School Splash School supplies will be distributed to local students at the Back to School Splash, sponsored by Agero, Altra Federal Credit Union and Wal-Mart, on Sunday, August 4th at Bel-Aire Pool, located at 124 Marie Drive.

This event is open to kindergarten through 12th grade students and is limited to the first 300 registered. Participants must register online to receive school supplies at recpro.cityofclarksville.com.

“Rally on the Cumberland” Canoe and Kayak Race

“Rally on the Cumberland” Canoe and Kayak RaceThe Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department has partnered with The Friends of the Blueway to host the 1st Annual “Rally on the Cumberland” Canoe and Kayak Race and Outdoor Expo on August 24th.  Rally on the Cumberland will take place at Liberty Park beginning at 7:00am. Cost to enter is $10.00 for ages 13-17 and $20.00 for those 18 and older. Deadline to enter is August 10th.

Rally on the Cumberland will also feature musical entertainment, canoe and kayak demonstration and a boat race for youth ages 8-12 in the Clarksville Marina basin as a part of the Outdoor Expo.

Riverfest 2013 is coming!

Clarksville's Riverfest 2013The 26th Annual Riverfest Celebration will be here before you know it!  The 2013 festival is set for September 6th and 7th. This two-day music and arts festival includes a wide variety of food vendors, art exhibits, an area just for kids, and of course multiple stages of live music!
