Dunbar Cave State Park Programs for July 17th through July 20th, 2013

 

Dunbar Cave State Park - Clarksville TNClarksville, TNDunbar Cave State Natural Area has been a State Park since 1973. The cave and its surrounding 110 acres have considerable scenic, natural and historical significance. The entrance offered shelter to prehistoric Native Americans as far back as 10,000 years.

Dunbar Cave State Natural Area will present many nature programs this summer. There are programs for children and adults.

Upcoming events include: Night Hike, Dunbar in the Past, Lake Life, National Moth Week, Trees are Terrific and so much more!

Programs are free unless noted otherwise. All programs require reservations by the deadline listed. Programs with no reservations by the deadline are canceled.

All programs begin at the Visitor Center unless another site is listed.

*Designates program that meets Junior Ranger requirements

Children must be accompanied by an adult (one adult for each three children). The age limits are definite – please do not sign up a child who is too young or too old for the program. Call 931.648.5526 for reservations.

*Junior Ranger Program – Pick up a Junior Ranger Adventure Guide in the office. Complete the requirements to become a Junior Ranger and get a badge and certificate.

Wednesday, July 17th

Night Hike

Time: 8:00pm–9:15pm
Ages: All ages
Enjoy an evening stroll through the woods as we look for the creatures of the night.

Thursday, July 18th

Kids Nature Games

Time: 8:30am–10:00am
Ages: All Ages

Bring out the kids for fun games that will allow them to understand nature and enjoy the outdoors.

Friday, July 19th

Dunbar in the Past

Time: 8:30am–10:00am
Ages: 8 to adult

Native Americans, resort days, dancing, country music learn about the park before it was a park.

Lake Life

Time: 7:00pm–8:30pm
Ages: 4 to adult

What lives in the lake? We’ll walk around the easy Lake Trail and learn about aquatic plants and animals.

National Moth Week

Time: 8:00pm–9:30p.
Ages: All Ages

Bring your cameras and field guides out to Dunbar Cave to see what kinds of moths and other nocturnal insects we can
find in our light trap. All species found will be turned in to the Butterflies and Moths of North America database.

Saturday, July 20th

Trees Are Terrific

Time: 9:30am-11:00am
Ages: 7 and up

Learn about the trees around you on this one mile hike.

Bugs, Slugs and Other Ugs

Time: 7:30pm–9:00pm
Ages: 5 to adult

Let’s look for the creepy crawlies that hide under rocks and logs!
