Fort Campbell, KY – The change of command and change of responsibility ceremony is a time honored tradition within the Army.

Leaders pass on their responsibility for taking care of and training Soldiers to new leadership after they serve their time within that position.

Leaders, both commissioned and noncommissioned, within 3rd Brigade Combat Team “Rakkasan,” 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), will not only pass their responsibilities over to new leaders, but also their knowledge, their strengths and the commitment of upholding the legacy of being a Rakkasan.

Though several change of command/ responsibility ceremonies within the BCT occurred during the deployment and since the unit’s return, many more are scheduled within the coming weeks.

A few of the upcoming change of command ceremonies include; 1st Battalion, 187th Infantry Regiment at 10:00am and 1st Squadron, 33rd Cavalry Regiment at 4:00pm on July 30th, 2013, and 3rd Battalion, 320th Field Artillery Regiment at 10:00am and 626th Brigade Support Battalion at 4:00pm on July 31st, 2013, respectively.

The final ceremony of the brigade change of command ceremonies is that of the BCT Commander, at 10:00am on August 1st, 2013 where Col. R.J. Lillibridge passes his Rakkasans and responsibilities to Col. J.B. Vowell.

Each of these ceremonies is held at the Division parade field.

Rakkasan leaders change, but all, past, present and future, serve with the same honor, integrity and courage engrained with the unit’s motto, “Ne Desit Virtus” – Let Valor Not Fail.
