Clarksville Parks and RecreationClarksville, TN – The weekly Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department Recreation Report provides Clarksvillians with a glimpse at the activities and events that are available from the Parks and Recreation Department for them to enjoy together as a family.

This weeks highlights include: Volunteers Needed for Youth Mentoring Program, A Taste of Creativity, Clarksville Sports Festival, Volunteers Needed for Riverfest 2013, and “Rally on the Cumberland” Canoe and Kayak Race.

Volunteers Needed for Youth Mentoring Program

Volunteer mentors are needed for the upcoming Dream Chasers Group Mentoring Program. Mentors, ages 18 and older, will be working with youth, ages 13-17 in a small group atmosphere. Small group leaders, guided by professionals, will mentor youth as they discuss dealing with negative influences that affect teens and will promote making healthy and informed decisions.

NEW! A Taste of Creativity

Youth ages 8-16 can explore their creativity with this new program at the Burt-Cobb Community Center! A Taste of Creativity will be held weekly, August 6th through September 10th from 4:15pm to 5:30pm every Tuesday.

Clarksville Sports Festival

2013 Clarksville Sports FestThe 3rd annual Sports Fest is FREE and open to all ages. Sports Fest will be held at the Wilma Rudolph Event Center from 10:00am to 3:00pm on Saturday, August 17th.

The day-long festival is a celebration of sports and athletics in Clarksville and the surrounding area that will feature not only sports demonstrations and interactive areas, but also an exposition area where a wide variety of the community’s athletic and outdoor clubs, businesses and organizations will come together in one location.

Festival-goers will be given the opportunity to explore many unique sports such as Rugby, Mixed Martial Arts, Crossfit, Parkour and more!

“Rally on the Cumberland” Canoe and Kayak Race

“Rally on the Cumberland” Canoe and Kayak RaceThe Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department has partnered with The Friends of the Blueway to host the 1st Annual “Rally on the Cumberland” Canoe and Kayak Race and Outdoor Expo on August 24th. Rally on the Cumberland will take place at Liberty Park beginning at 7:00am. Cost to enter is $10.00 for ages 13-17 and $20.00 for those 18 and older.

Deadline to enter is August 10th at www.rallyonthecumberland.com.

Rally on the Cumberland will also feature musical entertainment, canoe and kayak demonstration and a boat race for youth ages 8-12 in the Clarksville Marina basin.

Volunteers Needed for Riverfest 2013!

Clarksville's Riverfest 2013Want to volunteer for Riverfest 2013? Signing up is easy! Just visit www.clarksvilleriverfest.com and select “Volunteer” from the left-hand navigation tab. Click the link to the online registration form, enter your information, select the date and time you would like to volunteer, and soon after you will receive a confirmation email.

There are several timeslot options in the areas of Soft Drink Sales as well as in the Adventure Zone kids’ Area to fit anyone’s schedule!

Riverfest will take place September 6th and 7th at McGregor Park.
