Clarksville Parks and RecreationClarksville, TN – The weekly Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department Recreation Report provides Clarksvillians with a glimpse at the activities and events that are available from the Parks and Recreation Department for them to enjoy together as a family.

This weeks highlights include: Mayor’s Summer Night Lights, Cardio Boxing, Fishing Derby for special needs children and adults, Deadline for “Rally on the Cumberland” quickly approaching and Riverfest 2013.

Mayor’s Summer Night Lights comes to a close

Mayor's Summer Night LightsAs summer break comes to an end, so does the popular Mayor’s Summer Night Lights program. Join us from 6:00pm to 9:30pm August 7th at Pettus Park, located at 345 Farris Drive, for a fun-filled evening! Free food and drinks will be provided!

Don’t miss the last 7-on-7 flag football tournament of the season. Tournament is open to ages 11-14, 15-17, and 18 and up. Anyone wishing to participate must be at the location no later than 5:45pm to sign up.

NEW! Cardio Boxing

Looking for an intense cardio workout? Try our new Cardio Boxing intro class- for free! Classes will be held August 12th, 19th, and 26th from 7:00pm to 8:00pm at the Burt-Cobb Community Center for ages 9 to adult. Cardio Boxing helps to reduce and relieve stress, build confidence and improve balance and flexibility.

A Center ID card is required to participate. Center ID cards are available for purchase at any of our three community centers as well as the Main Office. Cards are $5.00 for an entire year and are good at all three centers. Families with multiple children are eligible for discounted pricing.

Fishing Derby for special needs children and adults

Adaptive Fishing DerbyBel-Aire Pool, located at 124 Marie Drive, is excited to host the first-ever Adaptive Fishing Derby on Saturday, August 31st from 8:00am to 2:30pm.

The Adaptive Fishing Derby provides an opportunity to fish, right out of the pool! The event is open to children and adults ages 5 and older, with mental or physical disabilities and their families. The Adaptive Fishing Derby is free to attend and will feature prizes and giveaways to participants!

Pre-registration is available online atrecpro.cityofclarksville.com for the first 50 participants to register in each age group.

Those registered will participate at the following times:

Pre-K – 2nd grade: 8:00am
3rd – 5th grade: 9:30am
Middle/High School: 12:00pm
Adult: 1:30pm

Deadline for “Rally on the Cumberland” quickly approaching

“Rally on the Cumberland” Canoe and Kayak RaceThe Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department has partnered with The Friends of the Blueway to host the 1st Annual “Rally on the Cumberland” Canoe and Kayak Race and Outdoor Expo on August 24th.

Rally on the Cumberland will take place at Liberty Park beginning at 7:00am. Cost to enter is $10.00 for ages 13-17 and $20.00 for those 18 and up. Deadline to enter is August 10th at www.rallyonthecumberland.com.

Rally on the Cumberland will also feature musical entertainment, canoe and kayak demonstration and a boat race for youth ages 8-12 in the Clarksville Marina basin.

Riverfest 2013 is coming!

Clarksville's Riverfest 2013The 26th Annual Riverfest Celebration will be here before you know it! The 2013 festival is set for September 6th and 7th. This two-day music and arts festival includes a wide variety of food vendors, art exhibits, an area just for kids, and of course multiple stages of live music!
