APSU Football Practice Tuesday cut short due to Lightning

Austin Peay State University Governors Sports - APSUClarksville, TN – A little more than two hours into Austin Peay State University’s first football practice, a lightning warning halted activities, Tuesday morning.

It was a morning of newcomers getting acquainted with their respective coaches, freshmen getting adjusted to the college level and intensity from both sides of the football as evidenced by the vocal nature of respective defensive and offensive coordinators Granville Eastman and Marcus Gildersleeve.

It also was the first practice for new assistant coaches Kyran Weaver (linebackers) and Josh Richards (wide receivers), who began to familiarize themselves with their respective personnel.

That allowed first-year head coach Kirby Cannon the ability to move from area to area, evaluating each situation.

But it also was a day of slight disruptions. A multitude of Govs had to leave practice for classes—summer school concludes this week—while others came to practice late after getting out of class.

In addition, the Governors also received a visit from a Tennessee Titans scout.

The Governors will have practices also Wednesday and Thursday before their first two-a-day session, Friday.
