Dunbar Cave State Park Programs for August 13th through August 17th, 2013

Dunbar Cave State Park - Clarksville TNClarksville, TNDunbar Cave State Natural Area has been a State Park since 1973. The cave and its surrounding 110 acres have considerable scenic, natural and historical significance. The entrance offered shelter to prehistoric Native Americans as far back as 10,000 years.

Dunbar Cave State Natural Area will present many nature programs this summer. There are programs for children and adults.

Upcoming events include: Wildflower Evening Hike, Nature Readings: Bats, Mudbugs and Frogs, Trees Are Terrific, Wildflower Walk, and Aquatic Critters of Swan Lake!

Programs are free unless noted otherwise. All programs require reservations by the deadline listed. Programs with no reservations by the deadline are canceled.

All programs begin at the Visitor Center unless another site is listed.

Children must be accompanied by an adult (one adult for each three children). The age limits are definite – please do not sign up a child who is too young or too old for the program. Call 931.648.5526 for reservations.

Tuesday, August 13th

Evening Hike

Time: 6:00pm–7:30pm
Ages: All Ages

This time of day is great for seeing wildlife such as deer, owls and bats. Come walk the 2 mile trail and beat the heat.

Reservations By: 4:30pm August 12th.

Thursday, August 15th

Nature Readings: Bats

Time: 3:30pm–4:00pm
Ages: Ages 5-7

Meet at the cool cave entrance and listen to stories about bats.

Reservations By: 4:30pm August 14th.
Program Leader: Amy Wallace, Interpretive Specialist

Mudbugs and Frogs

Time: 8:00pm–9:00pm
Ages: All Ages

Join us for an evening of hunting Mudbugs (aka crayfish, crawdads) at the lake. I will teach you a near fool proof plan for catching these interesting creatures and teach you a little bit about them and frogs.

Friday, August 16th

Trees Are Terrific

Time: 6:00pm–7:00pm
Ages: 6-adult

Walk the lake trail with a ranger and learn about some of the common trees you can find in the park.

Saturday, August 17th

Wildflower Walk

Time: 9:00am–10:30am
Ages: 10-Adult

Learn the names and lore of the flowers on this hike to the cave and along the lake.

Reservations By: 4:30pm August 16th.

Aquatic Critters of Swan Lake

Time: 6:30pm–8:00pm
Ages: All Ages

Have you ever wanted to get a good look at a turtle or wondered what fish live in Swan Lake? Come out and see what animals we are able to catch and learn a little bit about how they live their lives.
