Dunbar Cave State Park Programs for August 22nd through August 25th, 2013

Dunbar Cave State Park - Clarksville TNClarksville, TNDunbar Cave State Natural Area has been a State Park since 1973. The cave and its surrounding 110 acres have considerable scenic, natural and historical significance. The entrance offered shelter to prehistoric Native Americans as far back as 10,000 years.

Dunbar Cave State Natural Area will present many nature programs this summer. There are programs for children and adults.

Upcoming events include: Birds of Prey, History Hike, Lake Life, and Evening Trail Hike!

Rebecca Davenport of Paris Landing State Park and Shawn Settle, Dunbar Cave Seasonal Interpretive Ranger will be doing a Birds of Prey Program Saturday, August 24th.

Programs are free unless noted otherwise. All programs require reservations by the deadline listed. Programs with no reservations by the deadline are canceled.

All programs begin at the Visitor Center unless another site is listed.

Children must be accompanied by an adult (one adult for each three children). The age limits are definite – please do not sign up a child who is too young or too old for the program. Call 931.648.5526 for reservations.

Through August 31st, Dunbar Cave Seasonal Interpretive Ranger Shawn Settle will be working to improve the trails on the Natural Area. He will need some help! If you walk or run our trails, please volunteer a few hours one day (or more) to help Shawn make them easier to use.

Thursday, August 22nd

History Hike

Time: 5:30pm–6:30pm
Ages: 8-adult

Learn about what Dunbar Cave used to be like – parties, dances, bowling alleys and more.

Friday, August 23rd

Evening Trail Hike

Time: 5:30pm-7:00pm
Age: All ages

This time of day is great for seeing wildlife. Come walk the 2 mile trail and beat the heat.

Saturday, August 24th

Birds of Prey

Time: 11:00am
Ages: All Ages

Please join us at the cave entrance as Rebecca Davenport of Paris Landing State Park brings out some of her feathered friends. Come and enjoy learning about these wonders of the sky and get a close look at hawks and owls as we enjoy the natural air conditioning of the cave. Cameras Welcome!!!

Lake Life

Time: 5:30pm–6:30pm
Ages: Ages 4-12

What lives in the lake? We’ll walk around the easy Lake Trail and learn about aquatic plants and animals.
