Clarksville’s 8th Annual ‘Frolic on Franklin’ coming September 14th, 2013

Clarksville's Frolic on FranklinClarksville, TN –  Downtown Clarksville’s 8th Annual “Frolic on Franklin: A Celebration of the Arts” will take place Saturday, September 14th from 9:00am-3:30pm. The free event will showcase the works of 20 local and regional artists, staged and roaming entertainment, artists’ demonstrations, and baked goods – all along the 100 block of historic Franklin Street.

A variety of original fine art, as well as handmade crafts, will be on display including paintings and photography, handmade toys, wood-turned items, quilts, fabric purses and totes, pottery, wreaths, hand-painted signs, jewelry, woven and knitted items, and seasonal gifts. Items will be for sale with prices ranging from $2.00 – $250.00.

A crowd favorite is seeing, and often participating in, artists’ demonstrations. About half of the booths will offer the opportunity to learn techniques directly from the artists throughout the day.

Some of these include watercolor, wood-turning on a lathe, beaded jewelry making, plein air painting, knitting, weaving, crochet, scroll saw, and fish painting.

Participating artists and their works include

  • 2 Old Biddies – crocheted toys, tin men, wind spinners
  • A Cut Above Woodworking – wooden puzzles, ornaments, scroll saw art
  • A Stich or Two – crocheted scarves and dish towels, embroidery, child quilts
  • Carolyn Rogers – travel jewelry bags, pot towels, fabric items
  • Clarksville Friends of Photography – photographs
  • Clarksville-Montgomery County Arts & Heritage Development Council – prints, stationary, wooden cutouts of local buildings
  • David Magers Photography– framed photography and prints, photo greeting cards
  • Downtown Artists Cooperative – framed art, jewelry and pottery
  • Frank Lott – original watercolors, paintings, and prints
  • LNM Creations – ceramic garden ornaments, photo notecards
  • Mia’s Creations – outdoor and indoor wooden art
  • Mildred & Mabel’s – handmade jewelry
  • Pocket Charm Purses & Bags – fabric handbags and totes
  • The Fruit of Her Hands – hand painted signs, magnetic boards, blankets, wreaths
  • Thornton Pottery – pottery
  • Tuckessee Wood Turners – various wood-turned items
  • Twisted Creations – bottle cap and handcrafted jewelry
  • Twisted Sister Designs – jewelry, boas, scarfs and hats
  • Two Branches – handmade books and rugs, hand painted purses, knitted items
  • Wooden Things – Christmas ornaments, bowls, pepper mills

In addition to artist booths, a roaming magician will perform along the street and staged entertainment is scheduled throughout the day.

Shops and restaurants along Franklin and throughout the downtown district will be open their regularly Saturday hours. Downtown Market is also open around Public Square until 1:00pm.

The evening will conclude with a ticketed gala auction, dinner and the opening of the Roxy’s 31th season with a musical revue from Monty Python’s “Spamalot.”
