Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University men’s cross country team kicks off its 2013 season at the Brooks Memphis Twilight Invitational, hosted by Christian Brothers, with a 9:20pm (CT) start time at Collierville’s Mike Rose Soccer Complex.
Head coach Doug Molnar knows his charges have a tall order entering 2013. With only one athlete, senior Tyler Kepley, returning from last season’s squad, Molnar will have to integrate a host of newcomers into the Austin Peay attack.“It’s pretty exciting,” Molnar said. “They’re a young bunch with a lot of talent. They really work hard in practice every day. Our pack running will be a strength this season.”
Sophomore transfer Cory Nwaiji joined Austin Peay after a year at Alabama State; he was the No. 2 finisher for the Hornets at the 2012 SWAC Championships and will be counted on as a veteran influence for this season’s young Govs squad. A trio of local talents – Kyle Harmon (Rossview High School), Alex Haycraft (West Creek High School) and Thomas Owen (Northwest High School) – make their Austin Peay debuts this weekend as well.
The Govs travel to Chattanooga next week for the PowerAde Invite, hosted by Chattanooga at Moccasin Bend.
