After Sunday’s 320, the Lady Govs shot a Labor Day round of 317. The 637 leaves APSU in fourth place behind fellow Ohio Valley Conference foe Belmont, which owns a two-round 532. Host Jacksonville State, playing on its home course, is running away with the event, sitting at 587 while UALR is in second at 614.

The final round of the 54-hole tourney will be played Tuesday on the 5,943-yard, par-72 Robert Trent Jones course layout.

Seniors Tala Mumford and Rachel Deaton paced the Lady Govs’ Monday scores, each shooting 78s. Sophomore Jessica Cathey fired her second consecutive 80 while Morgan Kauffman had an 81 while fellow freshman Morgan Gardner had an 82. The Lady Govs’ five counters are all within one stroke of each other as Cathey, Gardner and Kauffman all are at 160 while Mumford and Deaton are at 161.

Individually, freshman Amber Bosworth shot the Lady Govs’ best round, a 77, while junior Meghan Mueller, battling knee issues fired a 78. Freshman Kelsey Schutt added an 85.

“As a whole I thought we played much better than Sunday,” APSU coach Sara Robson. “We just didn’t finish well. I believe we lost seven shots on the last three holes.”

Rain and lightning again created issues Monday. In fact, the start was delayed nearly two hours.

“I think fatigue and lack of focus created the problems on those final holes,” Robson said. “The day again got long because of the delay, causing some of them to lose their focus.

“This is the first tournament of the year and you have to get used to the grind of playing tournament golf. Tomorrow our goal is to play 100 percent mentally and physically until the final shot drops.”
