Freshman Martin Rejman picked up the Govs first top-10 finish of the 2013 campaign at last weekend’s Powerade Invitational in Chattanooga, where he finished 10th with a 16:13.23 mark in the 5K event. Freshmen have taken the top four finishing positions in each of the Govs’ first two 2013 races.

The Govs finished third out of 10 squads in their last appearance (2011) at the Earl Jacoby Memorial. Tyler Kepley, the only remaining runner from that team, finished 32nd overall and fourth among the Govs with a 29:47 mark, helping Austin Peay to a third-place finish.

“I think this can be a confidence-builder for us,” said head coach Doug Molnar. “We’ll go out, execute and try to take care of business and run our race plan.”

Austin Peay and Evansville will be the only Division I teams in attendance in Huntsville, but will be pushed by lower-tier powers such as Delta State (ninth in the Division II South Region), Clayton State (third in the Southeast Region) and host UAH (third in the South Region).

The Govs take a break from their three-week season-opening jaunt to rest and recover before traveling to the Greater Louisville Classic, October 5th, at Tom Sawyer State Park in Louisville, KY.
