Clarksville, TN – With the resignation of Councilman Nick Steward, a vacancy has been created on the Clarksville City Council for a representative from Ward 1.
Anyone who seeks to be considered as a candidate for the Ward 1 vacancy should provide, in writing, a statement of interest indicating that they have been a resident of the City of Clarksville for at least one year and that they are registered to vote.
Please note that Mr. Steward was elected in 2010, prior to the most recent redistricting. The person chosen to fill the pending vacancy must reside in the former boundaries of Ward 1. Any questions about these boundaries and whether a person’s residence qualifies should be directed to Vickie Koelman, Montgomery County Election Commission, at 931.648.5707 or by e-mail at vote@mcgtn.net.
Additionally, as required by City Code Sec. 1-210, anyone who meets the eligibility requirements will be required to appear before the City Council to present a brief statement and be interviewed. This interview process will be conducted during the City Council’s Regular Session on October 3rd, 2013.
Participation in the interview process is mandatory and any potential candidate who does not appear will not be considered for the Ward 1 vacancy. Within 14 days of the interviews, Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan will call a Special Session of the City Council for the purpose of voting. The person receiving a majority vote of the entire City Council will then be sworn in to represent Ward 1.
