Clarksville-Montgomery Public Library offers Free Downloadable Music and Online Classes

Clarksville-Montgomery County Public LibraryClarksville, TN – The Clarksville-Montgomery Public Library will be offering two new electronic resources for library card holders in Montgomery County – Freegal Music and Universal Class – available immediately on the library website: www.mcgtn.org/library — under the E-Resources tab.

Freegal Music, which is short for Free and Legal, is a resource that expands the collection of music available to C-MCPL library card holders by over 3 million songs. Each cardholder in good standing may download up to three MP3 files per week at no charge. These songs become the property of the library user once they are downloaded.

C-MCPL is proud to join other libraries such as Nashville Public Library and the Brentwood Library in offering this exciting service to its users. Artists from One Direction to Miley Cyrus to Michael Jackson and Bruce Springsteen are offered through Freegal Music.

Musical genres from classical to pop and everything in-between are represented on this Sony Music Entertainment-based product, which will appeal to all age groups.

New songs are released to Freegal Music at the exact same time they are released to iTunes and Walmart.

Universal Class is a second electronic resource that should appeal to a diversity of library users. This resource offers over 500 different classes from Algebra to Yoga. Classes can be taken for fun, to increase employability, for personal development, for workplace training, for homeschooling, etc.

The library plans to use Universal Class in-house to provide online staff training on the topics of Excel and Word and other relevant computer skills. Courses provide certificates of achievement when all tests are passed. Five classes per person can be taken by a library card holder at any given time. Classes include such diverse topics as Italian Cooking, Dog Training, Economics 101, and How to Quit Smoking.

For those who would like to access these resources and do not currently hold a library card, please visit the library or call the library at 931.648.8826. A photo ID with current address or photo ID along with proof of local residency are all that is required to open a library account. Once the library account is established, users may use these services remotely online.
