Clarksville Police Department alerts public to Stop for School Buses

Clarksville Police Department - CPDClarksville, TN – Starting Immediately, Friday, September 29th, 2013, the Clarksville Police Department is stepping up enforcement on School Bus Routes.

When a school bus is stopped, with its red lights flashing and its stop sign out, all traffic from both directions must STOP. To be clear, this means the traffic coming from the opposite direction of the school bus, as well as the vehicles following, are required to stop.

The only time traffic from the opposite direction is not required to stop, is if the lanes are physically divided (eg. Concrete block dividers or grass between lanes…).

There are very few roads in the city of Clarksville, where buses stop, that are physically divided.

There will be Clarksville Police Department Patrol Units in all known bus stop areas and unmarked Patrol Units following buses. When a driver is stopped for this violation, he or she will be cited. The total costs for this Class A Misdemeanor is $465.50.

Bottom line- Stop For Stopped School Buses!
