Redeye 10 Minute Play Festival

Tickets for general admission is $10.00 at the door. The price for students is $5.00.

Ricky Young, owner of the Fronkensteen Lounge is teaming up with the APSU Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) to host the Redeye Ten Minute Play Festival, a 24 hour play festival that will go up simultaneously in all four Time Zones.

In its second year the Redeye is a national event that produces the plays of six playwrights nationally in the format of a crazy theatre marathon. Half of the proceeds of the show go to the New Works Initiative, a fund that helps playwrights raise money to produce their work.

When Ricky Young was first asked by one of his colleagues to be the host for the Central Time Zone Redeye he was nothing but honored. “I was ecstatic,” Young says, “I submitted a play to it last year and it didn’t get in, now this year I get to host it. How often does that get to happen?”

The other thing he knew to do was to call his friend, Zach Mcelroy who is a member of the SDS to see if they would like to help him cohost it. “Zach and I have worked together in theatre before and we always talked about working together again. So when this opportunity came up he was one of the first people I asked”. In return for helping to co-host the event the SDS will receive a portion of the proceeds as well.

So what can you expect?! Come see art happen right before your eyes as actors and directors undergo a theatrical experiment live in front of the audience. “So what the audience is trying to help us answer is ‘can 6 plays happen successfully in 24 hours?’”, Young says “I also say that it’s community theatre at it’s purest, artists coming together to do the theatre that they love so that other artists can do theirs.”

Ricky would also like to ask for help from the community. “We are looking for about 20 actors to take the stage and make this crazy idea happen!” Young says, “and you had better act fast. The first 20 actors that email Fronkensteentheatre@gmail.com get in. And let me tell you slots are gonna go quickly”

There is no audition. All you have to do is email the Fronkensteen Lounge and get on the list!

All you have to do is Be available from 8:00pm September 27th thru 10:00pm September 28th, sign a waiver and release form at check-in, and be willing to go crazy for the arts!
