The win improves the Lady Hawks to 22-2 overall and 13-0 in conference play with one regular season conference game remaining before district play begins. The Northeast Lady Eagles fall to 6-7 overall, 5-5 in conference.

“They did really good,” Lady Hawks head coach Jennifer Garinger said. “We are looking forward to finishing up the district and getting on to district play.”

The Lady Hawks offense looked more than ready for district play against the Lady Eagles. They generated 41 kills and served 13 aces in the match. Janie White led the charge above the net with 10 kills. Elevating with her for 9 kills were teammates Mica Koontz and Shelby Hayes. Regan Comperry served 6 aces to go with her 6 kills.

The Lady Eagles made 11 kills in the match and served one ace.

“We played slow tonight. We were not really ourselves tonight,” Lady Eagles head coach Joyce Williams said. “ I know our big girls just came back. She was out for about a week and a half. It was like we were trying to adjust I guess. Most of the teams in our district are not as quick, not as strong. I guess we just had a soft schedule for a while and we tried to adjust to the game. We just woke up at the last minute. We woke up too late.”

The Lady Hawks were wide awake and looked sharp in game one. From the initial serve, they set up their attacks smoothly and bombarded the Lady Eagles at the net. In their first 11 attack attempts, the Lady hawks made 9 kills and two errors, establishing a 9-3 lead. They were ahead 18-8 when White made back-to-back kills that ignited a 7-0 run. During the run, Comperry served 3 aces in a row. The Lady Hawks made 17 kills in game 1.

The Lady Eagles recovered with solid defense in the second game. Lady Hawks attacks that had found open court in the first game was suddenly being dug out by diving Eagles defenders. The extra effort helped the Lady Eagles get their offense started. They doubled their kill total from game 1. However, serving struggles gave the Lady Hawks extra opportunities to hold serve and set up their potent offense.

The Lady Eagles were only down by 2 points, 9-7, when the Lady Hawks made 4 kills in a row. It was the beginning of a 10-2 run that included 7 kills and 3 aces by the Lady Hawks. Down, 19-9, the Lady Eagles would only score 3 more points in the game.

Despite playing a little sloppier in the last game, the Lady Hawks established a strong lead and never relinquished it just like in game 1. Sydney Spoonamore served an ace that gave the Lady Hawks a 13-5 lead. Then they generated 4 kills in a 6-1 run.
The Eagles continued to fight throughout the match. Keziah Coombs made a kill and her teammate Ashley Moore followed it with an ace to make the score 23-10. However, it was too little, too late and the Lady Hawks closed the match 25-11.

“I told them to pick their heads up because we are a better team than what we showed,“ Williams said. “We played them a whole lot better the first half of the season.”

Garinger talked about her team remaining focused as they moved ahead.

“We definitely want to focus on getting through districts,“ Garinger said. “We don’t underestimate any team at all. Any team can win any night. We are definitely ready to go out there and play hard.“
