Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security Foundation appoints Keith Perrigan as First Executive Director

Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security FoundationNashville, TN – The Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security Foundation has announced the appointment of Keith Perrigan as its first Executive Director. Perrigan serves currently as the Assistant Special Agent in Charge of the United States Secret Service in the Nashville Field Office. He will assume his new role November 4th, 2013.

As Executive Director of the foundation, Perrigan will lead private sector support for the goals and objectives of the department, including law enforcement, driver services, and homeland security. The Executive Director will also work to establish partnerships with communities, businesses, and organizations statewide.

“Keith is bringing more than 28 years of law enforcement experience to this important role. Not only does he have an extensive background in public safety and homeland security resource management, Keith has the respect of many local, state, and national law enforcement leaders,” said Foundation Board Chairman Scott Niswonger. “As executive director, Keith will help the foundation prosper and provide even greater support for the Department of Safety and Homeland Security as it serves out its mission to help make Tennessee safer,” Niswonger added.

“I am honored and excited to be selected as the first Executive Director for the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security Foundation. I look forward to leading this organization as it grows. My goal is to build support for the foundation so it will play vital role in the department’s ability to keep Tennessee as one of the safest states in which to live and work.

Perrigan joined the Secret Service in 1985. During his tenure, he has served the Nashville, Miami, and Washington field offices. He has also served on the Presidential Protection Division and Protective Intelligence Division. Perrigan has held many leadership positions throughout his career and was the program manager for the Joint Terrorist Task Force and the principle liaison officer to the intelligence community.

Perrigan earned his Bachelor of Arts and Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice Administration from Middle Tennessee State University. He and his wife Julie live in Brentwood. They have four children and one grandchild.

The Department of Safety and Homeland Security Foundation was created earlier this year as a result of legislation proposed by Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam and enacted by the Tennessee General Assembly in 2012. It is patterned after other law enforcement foundations throughout the country, such as the New York City Police Foundation.
