Clarksville Parks and Recreation Report for September 29th, 2013

Clarksville Parks and RecreationClarksville, TN – The weekly Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department Recreation Report provides Clarksvillians with a glimpse at the activities and events that are available from the Parks and Recreation Department for them to enjoy together as a family.

This weeks highlights include: Bark in the Park, Spooky Spectacular, Movies in the Park and Fright on Franklin.

2013 Bark in the ParkBring your 4-legged family members for a day of contests, demonstrations, prizes and more at Bark in the Park, October 5th from 1:00pm to 4:00pm at King’s Run Bark Park located at Liberty Park. Admission is free!

The event will kick-off at 1:00pm, followed by demonstrations and three contests for your 4-legged friends; a costume contest, an owner/dog look-a-like contest and best trick contest!

Registration for all contests will be done at the event. Come out and watch, even if your dog isn’t competing!

Spooky Spectacular

2013 Spooky SpectacularThe Kleeman Community Center and the Indoor Aquatic Center will be scaring up some Halloween fun with their first-ever Spooky Spectacular on Saturday, October 12. The Spooky Spectacular will take place at both facilities, located side-by-side at 166 Cunningham Lane.

Activities from 3:00pm to 7:00pm will include inflatables, floating pumpkin patch, music provided by an onsite DJ, as well as vendors with games and prizes for folks to enjoy. Admission is $5.00 per person. These activities will be very family-friendly.

The Haunted Maze and Haunted Swim portions of the evening will take place from 7:00pm to 10:00pm at the Indoor Aquatic Center. Admission is $4.00. These events are geared towards the older crowd may be considered too scary for young children.

Movies in the Park

Clarksville Parks and Recreation's Movies in the ParkJoin us Saturday, October 19th, at Liberty Park for the final Movies in the Park event of the season, featuring “Hotel Transylvania” followed by “Ghostbusters”.

Get your Zumba on at our pre-show activity, “Move before the Movies,” beginning at 5:15pm, followed by the showings an hour later. Be sure to bring your blankets and lawn chairs. As always, you are welcome to bring your picnic basket, but concessions will also be available from Bojangles. Sorry, no pets allowed.

Fright on Franklin

2013 Fright on FranklinThe 5th Annual Fright on Franklin, presented by City of Clarksville and Altra Federal Credit Union, will once again offer safe trick-or-treating and the very popular costume contest. Local businesses will line the streets in Downtown Clarksville on Saturday, October 26th from 3:00pm to 7:00pm to hand out candy and other treats. Activities include a performance from Acro Dance Express and new this year, the Fright on Franklin hayride! The costume contest kicks off at 3:30pm.

Once again, pre-registration for the costume contest is required. There will be no registration the day of the event. Contest participants must be registered by 4:30pm, October 24th to participate. The contest is free to enter and open to ages 0 to 12. Prizes will be awarded. Register early, there are limited spots for each age group.

The contest times and age groups are as follows: 0-2 yrs – 3:30pm, 3-6 yrs – 4:00pm, You Made That- 4:30pm, 7-9 yrs – 5:00pm, 10-12 yrs – 5:30pm, Groups 6:00pm. All costumes should be in good taste and appropriate for a family event.

Prizes, handed out by Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan, will range from free Chic-Fil-A for a year, $100.00 gift certificate to the YMCA, candy baskets from Sweet Memories Candy Shop, Free dance classes at Rhythm Inc., and so much more!
