Rossview High School Lady Hawks Volleyball defeat Northwest High School Lady Vikings 3-0, advance to District 10-AAA Semifinals

Clarksville, TN – In District 10-AAA quarterfinal play at Rossview High School, the Rossview Lady Hawks Volleyball defeated the Northwest Lady Vikings 3-0 (25-9, 25-12, 25-10). The Lady Hawks came into the quarterfinals undefeated in the conference. They continued to play in dominating fashion against the Lady Vikings Thursday evening.

Rossview Lady Hawks head coach Jennifer Garinger is pleased with the way her team is playing going into the semifinals.

“They are working together well,“ Garinger said. “We were changing up the lineup quite a bit, certain people in different positions and stuff just to get ready for beyond district and so on. They are working together really well and making the adjustments easy for me to be able to make them on the court.”

The Lady Hawks served 22 aces and generated 27 total kills in the match. Garinger’s adjustments resulted in 5 different Lady Hawks with at least 4 kills. Janie White led all players with 7 kills. She also served 2 aces and made 3 blocks.
Regan Comperry made 6 kills, 9 assists and served 11 aces. Kamryn Carter made 11 assists, served 6 aces and delivered 4 kills.

The Northwest Lady Vikings struggled with offensive errors throughout the match. They generated only 6 kills. Natalie Schilling delivered 4 of them.

Back-to back serving aces by Comperry helped the Lady Hawks jump on the Lady Vikings 4-0 in the first set. An attack error followed with a serving error by the Lady Hawks gave the Lady Vikings points until Shania Camien made a kill with an assist from Ronnie Schilling, making the score 6-4. That would be as close as the Lady Vikings would get to the Lady Hawks in the first set.

Mika Koontz elevated over the net to terminate a rally, one of three kills made in an 11-0 run by the Lady Hawks. Attack errors by the Lady Hawks were the only points the Lady Vikings could get before the score hit 22-9. Then three straight kills by the Lady Hawks finished the game.

The Northwest Lady Vikings offense improved in the second set. Passing errors by the Lady Hawks gave them more opportunities to hold serve and set up their offense.

Natalie Schilling made a kill to give the Lady Vikings a 2-0 lead in the second set. However, the Lady Hawks countered with an 11-1 run. The Lady Vikings would battle to within 4 points. After a Lady Hawks service error gave Kaitlyn Irvin the serve, she held it with an ace and two kills by Schilling to make the score 16-12. But the Lady Hawks regained their offensive sharpness and closed the game setting up 5 kills in the final 9-0 run.

The Lady Hawks regained offensive momentum continued into the final set. They served a match best 12 aces in the last set. Five of the aces came in an opening 12-2 run. The Lady Hawks were ahead 19-10 when Comperry took over serve and served 6-straight aces to win the last set and the match.

After the game Garinger said the team will work to improve their passing before playing in the semifinals at home Saturday morning. It will add to the work they already put in to earn the right to play at home in the postseason.

“Its awesome. We love to host it here,“ Garinger said. “The girls have worked really hard all season to make sure that we hosted it here.”

After the match, the Rossview Lady Hawks chosen for the All District team were announced. Four players made the team: Janie White, Regan Comperry, Kamryn Carter and Mikah Koontz

Comperry was named the District MVP.
