Clarksville High Soccer finishes regular season with 10-0 win over Springfield

Clarksville High School WildcatsClarksville, TN – Clarksville High School’s girls soccer team sent its five seniors out in grand fashion, October 8th at Hilda J. Richardson Field on Senior Night, as the Lady Wildcats exploded for seven goals in a span of 13 minutes in the first half on its way to a 10-0 District 10-AAA victory over Springfield High School.

The 10 goals tied a season high for Clarksville High (14-2-2, 7-0-0 District 10-AAA), with the Lady Wildcats also scoring 10 goals against Northwest High School on September 3rd.

“It was nice to have a game where the seniors could play a lot and have most of them score,” Clarksville High coach Jeff Jordan said. “We got to play everyone in the second half, so it was a feel-good type of game.”

It didn’t take long for the Lady Wildcats to get on the board against Springfield (8-8-2, 1-6-0 District 10-AAA), with the first goal coming in the eighth minute when junior Autumn Copeland got a through ball to sophomore Salera Jordan, who in turn crossed it to senior Amber Colvin; who knocked it past Yellowjackets keeper Karis Griffith for the 1-0 lead.

That first goal opened the floodgates, as two minutes later Jordan made it 2-0 on a goal coming off a rebound, followed about 30 seconds later by a goal from junior Ella Baggett – off a cross from Kelsey Greiff – making it 3-0.

“We were very crisp tonight on offense,” Jordan said. “Sometimes when you play a team that may not have the personnel you’re level (of play) come down, but tonight we were crisp and the girls were making the right runs.”

Colvin would score her second goal of the first half, in the 13th minute, as she took a cross from Jordan and put it in the net to make it 4-0.

Jordan would pick up her third assist of the first half in the 16th minute, when she crossed a ball over to freshman Alexis Hayes, who found the back of the net to make it 5-0.

Freshman Gybson Roth would join the scoring barrage a minute later, as she beat a Springfield defender to a 50-50 ball and put it into the right side of the net for a goal and a 6-0 lead.

The final Clarksville High goal of the first half would come in the 21st minute, when Roth played a through ball to Jordan, who found the back of the net for a second time in the first half to make it 7-0.

In the second half, Clarksville High took advantage of an early mistake in the first minute of the period by the Springfield goal keeper – who was called for being out of the box with the ball – and senior Morgan Fenoseff scoring a goal on the ensuing free kick to make it 8-0.

The Lady Wildcats ninth goal came in the 45th minute, with senior Chrystal Hetland scoring off a corner kick, while the 10th and final goal of the night came in the 50th minute; as Jordan scored for a third time in the match on an unassisted goal.

Overall, Clarksville High outshot Springfield 20-2 and 16-2 in shots on goal. The Lady Wildcats had the only corner kick.

Next up for Clarksville High will be the District 10-AAA tournament, where it will host Kenwood High School on October 10th at 7:00pm.

“Now we’re into what counts,” Jordan said. “From here on, with exception of the finals of the district and region tournaments, its win or go home.

“We play Kenwood in the opening round and we’re not going to take anything for granted, because if you have a bad night it’s over.”

The tournament semifinals will be on October 12th and the tournament finals on October 14th.
