Clarksville, TN – It was homecoming night at Northwest High School. However, it was the visiting Northeast Eagles who played like they were at home Friday night, soaring past the Vikings for a 54-8 victory.
Northeast Eagles Montrell Pardue and Dontavious Fort combined to score five first quarter touchdowns, establishing a commanding 34-0 lead. The Eagles speedy defense made sure the Vikings could not mount a comeback, creating four turnovers in the game.
“I thought they did a good job.”
Pardue completed 3 of 7 passes for 56 yards and two touchdowns. He also had 9 rushes for 97 yards and a touchdown. Fort caught both of Pardues touchdown passes and added 6 rushes for 120 yards and three touchdowns. The Vikings only other score was a 65-yard kick return by Kevin Reid.
Vikings quarterback Markel Kea had a tough night. He completed 9 of 15 passes for 171 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions. Kea also made 14 rushes for 58 yards and a fumble.
The Eagles punted once in the first quarter, on their opening offensive drive. The Vikings were forced to punt from deep in their own territory on their opening drive as well, but the Eagles defense blocked the punt. Pardue scooped up the ball after the block and ran 10 yards to the end zone for the Vikings first touchdown of the game.
The Vikings second drive ended when Eric Webster intercepted Kea’s second pass of the game. The interception set up the Eagles with first and goal on the 6-yard line. Fort rushed the six yards for his first touchdown of the game with 6:43 remaining in the first quarter.
The Vikings second punt was even deeper in their own territory than the first and went almost as bad. Bobbling the snap, the Vikings punter could not get the punt off and ended up running with the ball. He was tackled to set up an Eagles first and goal on the 1-yard line. Pardue dove over the goal line and a 2 point conversion made the score 20-0.
The Vikings third punt attempt was successful, but the result after was the same. This time the Vikings marched 63 yards on 6 plays to score again. Fort capped off the drive with an 11-yard dash to the end zone.
Down 34-0 at 11;30 in the second quarter, the Vikings were facing third down and 10 from their own 12-yard line. After the snap Kea scrambled, evaded several Vikings pass rushers and eventually completed a short pass to a wide open Jahnal Brown. Brown caught the pass and sprinted 80 yards to the end zone. It was the Vikings only touchdown in the game. They made a 2-point conversion to make the score 34-8.
On the ensuing kickoff, Reid broke a couple tackles and then outran the Vikings special teams 65 yards for a touchdown.
With 1:05 left in the first half, Pardue threw his second touchdown pass. It was a 15-yard strike to Fort on the end of a 7 play, 85 yard drive.
After generating just two first downs in the first half, the Vikings generated seven first downs in the second half, but did not score. Kea completed 5 of 6 passes with another interception and rushed for 35 yards in the second half.
Fort sprinted 80 yards for the Eagles last score at 4:59 in the third quarter.
“He is a really good athlete. He showed his versatility tonight,“ Shelby said. “He did some good things catching the ball for us and running some routes, a good route runner. I thought he did well.”
The win improves the Eagles to 5-3. The Vikings fall to 1-7
