Clarksville, TN – In July 1977, a young Austin Peay State University graduate named Ronald Bailey was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps.
Thirty-four years later, in June 2011, that APSU graduate became the first African American commanding general of the 1st Marine Division, the oldest and largest infantry division in the Marine Corps.
Today, Bailey is now a lieutenant general and assigned to the Headquarters Marine Corps as the Deputy Commandant for Plans, Policies and Operations.At 6:00pm on October 25th, he’ll discuss his distinguished and historic career as keynote speaker for the APSU Military Alumni Chapter Dinner in the Morgan University Center Ballroom.
The event, which costs $20.00 a person, is part of the University’s Homecoming festivities. It is sponsored by the APSU Military Alumni Chapter and the National Alumni Association. Proceeds from the dinner will go toward the APSU Military Alumni Scholarship.
