APSU Symphony Orchestra hosts free concert of Classical Masterworks on October 20th

APSU Department of MusicClarksville, TN – At 4:00pm on October 20th, the Austin Peay State University Symphony Orchestra will perform a free concert at the Mabry Concert Hall, featuring some of classical music’s more popular and rousing works.

The concert will be the only performance this semester for the 60-member student orchestra, under the direction of Dr. Gregory Wolynec, APSU professor of music.

“The orchestra continues to grow, and I’m very excited about the development of our student musicians,” Wolynec said. “And we have three wonderful pieces to perform for this concert.”

The program will open with Russian composer Pytor Tchaikovsky’s “Overture” to “Romeo and Juliet.” That work is considered one of the most popular pieces in classical music history.

The orchestra will then perform French composer Gabriel Fauré’s “Dolly Suite,” which is a collection of popular pieces written in honor of a girl assumed to be his illegitimate daughter.

The concert will end with Italian composer Ottorino Respighi’s “Pines of Rome.” That work concludes with a triumphant movement, evoking the sound of the Roman Army marching along the famed Appian Way at dawn.
