Clarksville Parks and RecreationClarksville, TN – The weekly Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department Recreation Report provides Clarksvillians with a glimpse at the activities and events that are available from the Parks and Recreation Department for them to enjoy together as a family.

This weeks highlights include: Costume Contest Deadline, Outdoor Fitness Equipment at Liberty Park and Walk with Me Tennessee Program’s grand prize announced.

2013 Fright on Franklin

Costume Contest Deadline October 24th

2013 Fright on FranklinThe 5th Annual Fright on Franklin, presented by City of Clarksville and Altra Federal Credit Union, will once again offer safe trick-or-treating and the very popular costume contest. Local businesses will line the streets in Downtown Clarksville on October 26th from 3:00pm to 7:00pm to hand out candy and other treats. Activities include a performance from Acro Dance Express and new this year, the Fright on Franklin hayride!

Pre-registration for the costume contest is required. There will be no registration the day of the event. Contest participants must be registered by 4:30pm, October 24th to participate. Registration is available online at recpro.cityofclarksville.com. The contests by age groups are open to children, 0 to 12. “Group” and “You Made That” categories are open to all ages. All costumes should be in good taste and appropriate for a family event.

Prizes include free Chic-Fil-A for a year, $100.00 gift certificate to the YMCA, candy baskets from Sweet Memories Candy Shop, Free dance classes at Rhythm Inc., family 4-pack to ICE, and more!

Outdoor Fitness Equipment at Liberty Park

The new outdoor fitness gym at Liberty Park is now open and a ribbon cutting ceremony has been scheduled for October 25th, 2013 at 10:00am.

The outdoor fitness gym consists of eight pieces of equipment that includes an elliptical cross trainer, leg press, multi bars, pull-up & dip, rowing machine, airwalker plus, sit-up board, and a warm-up station.

As part of a yearlong Challenge Based Learning program at Clarksville Academy, students were challenged with ways in which to improve their community. Team Galanz, had the idea of installing outdoor weight training equipment at Liberty Park. The students received a grant from the Clarksville-Montgomery County Community Health Foundation in May of this year. With a check totaling $23,573.96, Team Galanz, was able to make their project a reality.

Walk with Me Tennessee Program’s grand prize announced!

The Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department is excited to announce the grand prize for this session of the program! Thanks to the Sevierville Chamber of Commerce, the grand prize winner will receive a two-night stay at Fairfield Inn in Sevierville, Tennessee, two combo passes to all Ripley’s attractions (including the Aquarium in Gatlinburg) and two tickets to the interactive museum, WonderWorks, located in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee.

The Walk with Me Tennessee walking program challenges Clarksvillians to walk across the state using a series of challenges featuring trails in Clarksville as well as “virtual trails” in other Walk with Me Tennessee pilot communities. It is not too late to join in on this program! Participants can begin completing challenges listed on the Health Walkers website after they have created a free account on www.healthwalkers.com.

The first participant to report completion of each challenge during the designated challenge period will receive a Walk with Me Tennessee prize pack. For each challenge completed, participant’s names will be entered into a drawing for the grand prize at the end of the session. The more challenges completed, the more chances to win a fun weekend in Sevierville!

To be eligible for prize winning, participants must track their progress through www.healthwalkers.com.

The first session of Walk with Me Tennessee will run through December 17th and the second session will run from March 11th, 2014 – May 2nd, 2014.
