Clarksville High Soccer School advances to Region 5-AAA Finals with 7-1 win over Beech

Clarksville, TN – Clarksville High School’s girls soccer team exploded for five second-half goals in its Region 5-AAA tournament semifinal match, October 21st at Hilda J. Richardson Field, versus Beech High School to pull away for a 7-1 victory.

With the win, Clarksville High (18-2-2) advances to the 5-AAA tournament finals, October 23rd, where they will face Hendersonville High School (16-5-0) — who defeated Rossview High School in the other semifinal, 2-0.

The Lady Wildcats and Commandos have already met once this season, with Clarksville High coming away with a 3-1 home victory back on September 12th.

“Hendersonville is a traditional power,” Clarksville High coach Jeff Jordan said. “No Clarksville team has ever won on their field, so we’re looking forward to having a chance to change that.”

Clarksville High held a slim 2-1 advance at intermission, but just four minutes into the second half freshman Alexis Hayes took a cross on a two-on-one break from junior Ella Baggett and put in the back of the net to give the Lady Wildcats a 3-1 advantage.

“I think the goal that we scored right before half, to give us the lead, really settled our girls down and they were able to relax,” Jordan said. “If it had remained 1-1 at half they might have been a little bit more on edge, but once they relaxed they were able to play our type of game and when they do that they are capable of scoring a lot of goals.”

Six minutes later, junior Autumn Copeland was able to knock in a goal off a corner kick that wasn’t cleared by Beech to make it a 4-1.

The fifth Lady Wildcat goal came in the 60^th minute, with sophomore Salera Jordan scoring her second goal of the night off a cross from Baggett.

The final two goals scored by Clarksville High were both unassisted, with Hayes authoring her second goal of the match in the 68^th minute, while freshman Lindsey Brown scored the night’s final goal in the 73^rd minute.

“We talked before the game that we wanted to give our seniors at least two more games,” Jordan said. “And after a close first half we come out and did just that in a big way.”

In the first half, Clarksville High took the early 1-0 lead just four minutes into the match, with Jordan dribbling through the Lady Bucs defense and firing a shot off the Beech keeper’s hands and into the net.

The Lady Bucs would tie the match in the 29th minute 1-1, with a goal from Piper Bowler, who put in a rebound of a shot that was saved – but not controlled – by Lady Wildcats sophomore keeper Melia Correa.

Overall, Clarksville High outshot the Lady Bucs 22-5 and 16-5 in shots on goal, while also holding a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks.

Correa would finish with four saves in goal for CHS, while Claire Gregory recorded eight saves for Beech.
