Rossview High High School Football rewrites record book in 67-0 win over Springfield High

Rossview High School HawksClarksville, TN – Rossview High School’s football team rewrote its record book October 25th, as the Hawks scored a school-record 67 points in defeated District 10-AAA foe Springfield High School, 67-0.

The Hawks, who also broke into the state’s Associated Press top-10 rankings for the first time — coming in at #10 — also set the school single season record for wins with eight, improving to 8-1 overall and 5-1 in District 10-AAA.

The win also locks up second place in the district standings for Rossview, trailing only the top ranked team in Class 5-A Henry County High School.

Rossview would start the night’s scoring barrage n its second drive of the night, with junior quarterback Charles Talleyrand capping an eight-play 68-yard drive with an 14-yard touchdown run, with 6:19 left in the opening quarter, to make it 7-0 after Christian Kubas’ extra point.

The Hawks would get the ball right back in great field position at the Springfield (2-7, 2-4 District 10-AAA) 30 yard line when an up man fumbled the shot kick off.

Rossview would need only two plays to capitalize on the miscue, with junior tailback Isaiah Johnson going the 30 yards for the first of five scoring run on the night to make it 14-0, with 5:44 left in the first quarter.

The Hawks defense would step up once again on the next Springfield drive, with David Ross picking off a pass from Yellowjackets quarterback Evan Lenk at the Rossview 25.

Again, it would only take two plays for the Hawks to find the end zone – this time on a 62-yard dash by Johnson to make it 21-0.

Johnson would finish the night with 274 yards rushing on 18 carries.

The score would remain 21-0 heading into the second quarter, but in wouldn’t stay that way long, with Rossview scoring on its first drive on the period, with Johnson taking it in for a touchdown from 18 yards out, with 10:45 left before intermission to make it 28-0.

Despite Springfield getting into the Hawks end of the field for the first time in the contest on its next drive, the Hawks forced a Yellowjackets punt, but found itself pinned back on their own six yard line.

But even a long field couldn’t stop Rossview on this night, as the Hawks put together a 10-play drive – highlighted by a 23-yard run by Talleyrand followed by an 18-yard pass play from Talleyrand to junior wide receiver Christian Christenson – to set up senior Jevontez Griffin’s three-yard run for a touchdown to make it 35-0.

Talleyrand would total 97 yards on the ground, on six carries – and add another 110 yards through the air on 6-of-9 passing.

Even luck would be on the Hawks side on this night, as the final touchdown of the first half for the Hawks came on a fumble recovery in the end zone, with Talleyrand being stripped of the ball at the Springfield two and Allan Shuler falling on the ball for the score.

The extra point try was missed and Rossview took a 41-0 lead into halftime.

The second half was played with a running clock, but that still didn’t slow the Hawks down much, with Rossview scoring four more times in the final 24 minutes of play.

The first score came on the very first offensive play of the second half for Rossview, with Johnson exploding for an 80-yard touchdown run to give the Hawks a 48-0 lead.

Springfield would be held on downs on its next possession, giving the ball back to Rossview at the Yellowjackets 31.

Johnson would score his final touchdown of the game on his final carry going in from 14 yards out, with 3.9 second left in the third quarter to make it 54-0.

Rossview would open up its bench in the final quarter, but still put two scores on the board in the final 12 minutes, with junior running back Bobby Lenor scoring from 10 yards out and sophomore quarterback Ethan Clayton scoring on the final play of the game – a 16-yard run – to wrap up the first win for the Hawks over the Yellowjackets since the 2008 season.

Rossview will wrap up its regular season November 1st, as they travel across town to square off against Northwest High School.
