Shea, an avid cyclist, earned his Ph.D. in British Victorian literature from the University of Oregon.

He is the coordinator of the graduate program in English at APSU, and he has presented papers on bicycling in Victorian literature and culture at the International Cycling History Conference in Belgium (2012) and at the Association for the Study of Literature and the Environment (2011).

Shea also will present on this topic at the Victorians Institute conference in November 2013. He is currently co-editing, with Dr. Jeremy Withers of Iowa State University, a book that collects essays on bicycling in literature and culture. Shea also has published articles on Victorian authors William Morris, Olive Schreiner and Richard Jefferies.

In 2014, Shea will teach two study abroad London courses: a 4-week summer course on Sherlock Holmes’ London, and a world literature course which travels to London over spring break.

Sessions of the Provost Lecture Series can be viewed in real time via online streaming. Other sessions in the Provost Lecture Series also are planned for the academic year. All sessions are from 3:00pm-4:30pm in the MUC, Room 303.
