New documentary at APSU explores Sioux Indian buried a century ago in Germany

 

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – On a snowy afternoon a few years ago, the filmmaker Bettina Renner was walking through an old, Catholic cemetery in Dresden, Germany, when she came across a headstone with the name “Edward Two Two” engraved on it. The marker further identified the man, who died in 1914, as a Sioux Indian chief.

The grave seemed so out of place in Dresden – a city nearly destroyed by massive Allied bombings during World War II – that Renner set out to learn how Edward Two Two wound up Germany. «Read the rest of this article»

Roxy Regional Theatre presents Fitzgerald’s Iconic “The Great Gatsby”, November 8th – 23rd

 

Roxy Regional TheatreClarksville, TN – This November, the Roxy Regional Theatre brings the Great American Novel from the page to the stage with the regional premiere of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s “The Great Gatsby”.

The production, adapted by Simon Levy, is the only stage version authorized by the Fitzgerald estate since 1926. A finalist for the PEN Literary Award in Drama, its world premiere at Minneapolis’ Guthrie Theater commemorated the opening of the Guthrie’s new three-stage center in July 2006.

APSU’s Lisa Lewis publishes tap dance textbook

 

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – Dr. Lisa Lewis, Austin Peay State University associate professor of Health and Human Performance, has spent much of her life in a pair of tap shoes.

As a young dancer, she trained under tap legends such as Gregory and Maurice Hines and Al Gilbert, and she later traveled the country during her career as a professional dancer.
