Clarksville, TN – This is Dave Loos’ 24th season as Austin Peay head coach and he is 372-333 at APSU–the winningest basketball coach in Ohio Valley Conference history–and 454-386 all-time in his 28th season as a college head coach.
For the first time since the 1996 season Dave Loos will be only the Austin Peay basketball coach. He stepped down as APSU Athletics Director last April.
Austin Peay head coach Dave Loos is a 1970 Memphis alum and the former basketball and baseball standout was inducted into M-Club (Memphis Athletic Hall of Fame) in 2002.
Since 1993-94, Austin Peay has finished at .500 or above in the OVC for 19 of the last 20 seasons, that one season being 2012-13.
In 2013, the Governors failed to reach the OVC tourney for the first time in Dave Loos’ coaching career. They have appeared in 28 of the last 29 OVC tourneys.
Senior guard Travis Betran and senior forward Will Triggs were named Preseason All-OVC as voted by the conference coaches and sports information directors.
As a freshman center Chris Horton broke APSU’s single-season record for blocked shots with 100. He had three blocks in the season opener.
After dominating Conference USA in recent years, Memphis is now a member of the newly-formed American Athletic Conference.
Memphis was ranked 13th in both preseason national polls, the Associated Press poll and ESPN/USA Today coaches poll. Despite the lofty ranking, they are picked behind both defending national champ Louisville and UConn in preseason balloting in the newly-formed American Athletic Conference.
Memphis sophomore forward Shaq Goodwin and APSU sophomore center Chris Horton, both Atlanta area natives, played against each other in AAU basketball for four years.
Memphis guard Joe Jackson has been named to John R. Wooden Preseason Top-50 list. In addition, Jackson and Missouri transfer guard Michael Dixon are on the Bob Cousy Award list for the nation’s top point guard.
This is the 23rd meeting between Austin Peay. The Governors trail the series, 4-18, including last season’s 83-65 loss in the FedEx Forum. The Govs last win in the series came in 2002-03, an 81-80 overtime decision in assistant coach Corey Gipson’s first game with the Governors.
