7 Ways to Change Your Life – Today!

Kris WolfeClarksville, TN – How’s life? Really think about it. Are you loving life, or does your heart ache?  Are you enjoying peace and joy, or are you like the salmon, always swimming up stream?

If you are like many people, you desire a calm that constantly eludes you and a happiness that only seems fit for other people.

Whether you have been a Christian for years, or if you are wrestling through your faith, you probably could learn from these 7 tips.

7 Tips

  • “Let God work his will in you…” – The word that stands out to me is “let.” A true relationship involves letting someone into your heart and your life. You literally cannot imagine what God can do in you and through you if you let Him. Now imagine a relationship where you never let the other person close to you, and you never have intimate conversations. Doesn’t look like a solid relationship, does it?
  • “Yell a loud no to the Devil and watch him scamper.” – Do you have the right tools to tell the Devil no? Are you reading the Bible and keeping the verses close to your heart? Arm yourself with the Word and have the courage to tell the Devil no when he whispers lies to you. And he will; that’s what he does.
  • “Say a quiet yes to God and he’ll be there in no time.” – We often beg and plead with God to get our way. When is the last time you intentionally obeyed Him, followed Him, or communed with Him when you weren’t in a pinch? Saying yes is short and sweet and God shows up quickly. You may not get your way every time; that is far from guaranteed. Remember, we are letting His will to be done. We are not letting him give in to to our desires.
  • “Quit dabbling in sin. Purify your inner life.” – Notice this doesn’t say, “Quit going overboard with sin.” It tells us to quit sprinkling sin into our lives. Quit justifying the private sin like pride, greed and idolatry. All sins are major roadblocks to following God. Some say charity starts at home; I say the removal of sin does.
  • “Quit playing the field. Hit bottom, and cry your eyes out.” – Quit trying to maneuver around God. Stop trying to save yourself. Realize how bad things are without Him in your life, and let yourself feel the sorrow of that. Until we understand our emptiness, we will never reach out to Him to be filled up; and we will never find the peace our soul craves.
  • “The fun and games are over. Get serious, really serious.” – This doesn’t mean stop playing Monopoly or kickball, or to stop laughing (no one wants to be around someone like that.) This means if you want the fruit of the spirit, you have to plant the right trees in your orchard. If you want your life to change, you have to do something about it. “To get serious,” means having focus, being committed, and being intentional.
  • “Get down on your knees before the Master; it’s the only way you’ll get on your feet.” – This one is my favorite, not because I am good at this, but because historically, I have been really bad at it. I can name dozens of times that I have refused to submit to God and have felt the emptiness that comes with that separation (that I chose.) Submission is an ugly word is our culture, but it the most beautiful thing you can do when you have a loving God, and we do!

I haven’t written for a couple of weeks. I have a hard time writing when I don’t think I have anything of value to say. When I get stuck, I pray about it, and I clear out some time to visit with God. For me, that usually means I am reading the Bible, thinking, praying and listening. This week, while doing just that, I read these 7 tips in the Bible. See these tips aren’t mine; they are from the book of James (4:7-10, MSG).

I’m always surprised at what I learn when I am intentional about spending time with God. But I never, ever regret it. When’s the last time you were on your knees, talking to God?
