Two big quarters lift Montgomery Central High School Lady Indians past Clarksville Academy Lady Cougars

Montgomery Central High SchoolClarksville, TN – Montgomery Central High School’s girls basketball team used huge runs in the first and third quarters, November 21st at Procter Court, to pick up their first win of the season with a 56-30 victory over Clarksville Academy.

The Lady Indians (1-1) opened the game with a 14-0 run over the first 5:19, led by Tori Moore’s six points and Monica Fake’s four.

Moore would lead Montgomery Central with 14 points.

Clarksville Academy’s Bailey Foote ended the Lady Indians run with a free throw 45.3 seconds left in the first quarter to get the Lady Cougars (0-4) on the board.

Foote would lead all scorers with 21 points.

Foote would follow with two more free throws 30 seconds later to end the first quarter’s scoring, with Montgomery Central holding a 14-3 advantage.

In the second quarter, Montgomery Central would score the first four points of the period on a basket by MaKayla Flake and two free throws by Moore to build its biggest lead of the game, 15 points, 18-3, with 7:42 left in the first half.

The Lady Cougars would answer back with four straight points, including their first basket from the floor on the night by Taylor Treadway with 7:05 left in the second quarter.

The rest of the opening half would be a back-and-fourth affair over the final six minutes, with the Lady Indians holding a 10-point advantage at intermission, 26-16.

Much like the first half, the Lady Indians would put together a big run against the Lady Cougars to open the second half, this time scoring the first 12 points of the third quarter to build a 22-point lead, 38-16 with 3:16 left in the period.

Foote would end the run with a bucket at the 2:56 mark of the third quarter. It would be the only points scored in the quarter by the Lady Cougars.

The two teams played even in the final quarter, with both scoring 12 points each in the quarter, with the final points of the game coming on a half-court heave for a three pointer at the final horn by Clarksville Academy’s Anna Cherry.
