Austin Peay State University’s Student Government Association Puts on Strong Showing at Intercollegiate Event in Nashville

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s Student Government Association was well represented earlier this month at the Tennessee Intercollegiate State Legislature (TISL).

The TISL is a forum for the top echelon of the state’s campus leaders to exchange ideas, express their opinions and learn how government works.

The TISL’s Senate and House of Representatives, which first convened in 1966, meet in the legislative chambers of the State Capitol each November.

Nine students with APSU’s Student Government Association were selected to attend, submit legislation and debate on the floor of the State House.

Among the highlights of the weekend was the award presentation, which took place on November 17th. APSU student John “Jed” Dugger, a first-year communications graduate student, won the prestigious Carlisle Award, regarded as the oldest and most prestigious award for individuals attending TISL.

The award is named in honor of TISL’s founder, Dr. Douglas Carlisle. Only 10 senators and legislators, among hundreds in attendance, are selected for this award. Dugger currently serves APSU’s SGA as a Graduate Senator.

This marks the third consecutive year that a member of APSU’s delegation has won the Carlisle Award for outstanding contributions to TISL.
