APSU Basketball’s Chris Horton named College Sports Madness Player of the Week

Austin Peay State University Governors Sports - APSUClarksville, TN – College Sports Madness has named Austin Peay State University center Chris Horton the Madness Ohio Valley Men’s Basketball Player of the Week.

In the past week, Horton averaged 13 points, 9.0 rebounds and 3.8 blocks per game in APSU’s four contests. In particular Horton was crucial in the Govs’ win against Southern Illinois and Montana State.

In APSU’s 72-70 victory against Southern Illinois, Horton tied the single-game blocks mark for a fifth time with seven, the final one coming with one second left that prevented the Salukis from a possible game-tying basketball. He also had 10 rebounds in that contest.

On Saturday against Montana State, Horton scored a career-best 23 points, going 10-of-14 from the floor, while also grabbing nine rebounds and blocking four shots. Horton also had his season’s second double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds in the Govs’ loss to Cal State Northridge.

Horton was named to the Central Michigan Tournament all-tourney team for his efforts. In three games, he averaged 15.3 points and 8.7 rebounds. He shot 68 percent from the floor and 73 percent from the free throw line. He also had eight blocks.
