Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan wishes everyone a Happy Thanksgiving

City of Clarksville - Clarksville, TNClarksville, TN – As we all learned in elementary school, Thanksgiving is a celebration and a time for giving thanks for the blessings we have received and the obstacles we have overcome.

The first Thanksgiving feasts, we are told, were shared between the colonists and the Native Americans who had helped them survive. Indeed, those early celebrations recognized, at least in part, that without the natives, the settlers may not have survived.

There is no question that those first colonists would barely recognize the world they were beginning to build. Yet one thing remains true, our greatest opportunities and advancements come when we work together.

Over the past year, we have seen time and again what our community’s reputation for working together means. During the recent announcement that Hankook Tire had chosen Clarksville as the place for its first North American manufacturing plant, we heard time and again that it is our sense of community and our commitment to supporting our neighbors that sealed the deal.

Our strong relationship with leaders in state government and throughout Middle Tennessee has brought about better roads and intersections. We are offering commuters the opportunity to travel to and from Nashville daily through our membership in the Regional Transportation Authority.

Our community is made better by the addition of our blueway system made possible by generous gifts from Clarksville families.

I am both proud and humbled by the outpouring of support I see every day in our community. From the commitment our City employees have to our residents to the support and encouragement we offer our soldiers, it is evident that Clarksville is a special place because we, like those early Thanksgiving celebrants, know that we are in this together.

Thank you for the opportunity to be your Mayor. As we continue to move forward together, I appreciate the confidence and trust you place in me. Quite simply, I have the best job in the world and I will do everything I can to make sure that Clarksville is always the very best place to live, work and raise our families.

My best wishes for a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday to each of you.

Clarksville Mayor,
Kim McMillan
