APSU Governors Basketball travel to Youngstown State for Saturday match

Austin Peay State University Governors Sports - APSUClarksville, TN – The Austin Peay Governors travel to Youngstown State for a Saturday night match-up with the Penguins of the Horizon League, at the Beeghly Center in Youngstown Ohio.

Youngstown was a member of the Ohio Valley Conference from the 1981-82 season, through 1987-88, and the Govs have a 7-8 record against them. Saturday’s game is a return contest of the Sears BracketBuster Series.

YSU was picked fifth in the preseason Horizon League poll behind Green Bay, Wright State, Cleveland State and Oakland. The Penguins are coached by Jerry Slocum, and have already had a neutral site win against preseason OVC East favorite, Eastern Kentucky.

APSU was picked to finish third behind Southeast Missouri and Murray State in the OVC West Division in the preseason.

This is Austin Peay coach Dave Loos’ 24th season at the helm of the Governors, and he holds a 374-336 record, the winningest basketball coach in OVC history.

Since 1993-94, Austin Peay has finished at .500 or above in the OVC for 19 of the last 20 seasons, and failed to reach the OVC Tournament for the first time in 2013.

APSU is led by Travis Betran and senior forward Will Triggs, both named preseason All-OVC.

Sophomore Chris Horton was named College Sports Madness OVC Player of the Week after two strong performances in the Govs last four games.
