Clarksville Parks and RecreationClarksville, TN – The weekly Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department Recreation Report provides Clarksvillians with a glimpse at the activities and events that are available from the Parks and Recreation Department for them to enjoy together as a family.

This weeks highlights include: Indoor Aquatic Center to host New Year’s Eve Bash, Indoor Aquatic Center Open Extended Hours, Walk with Me Tennessee Program, and Indoor Aquatic Center hosts Special Needs Nights.

2013 New Year's Eve Splash

Indoor Aquatic Center to host New Year’s Eve Bash

Cheers to a splashing new year!  Visit the Indoor Aquatic Center at New Providence this New Year’s Eve for the 3rd annual New Year’s Eve Splash! The Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department is hosting a New Year’s Eve pool party from 8:30pm to 12:30am on Tuesday, December 31st.

Party-goers can enjoy music, refreshments and free access to “The Aqua Run” wibit and “The Aqua Climb” climbing wall.  This year, pool partiers can also enjoy a new, inflatable waterslide!  Cost to attend this event is $3.00.

This event is open to all ages, though minors ages 17 and under must be accompanied by a parent or adult guardian after 10:00pm.

Indoor Aquatic Center Open Extended Hours

All ages are welcome to spend the day at the Indoor Aquatic Center! The IAC will be open extended hours, from 6:30am to 8:00pm on the following days:

  • December 23rd, 27th, 30th
  • January 1st-3rd & 6th

Daily admission is only $5.00 for weekends and $3.00 for weekdays excluding Tuesdays when admission is only $1.00 and Thursdays when admission cost is buy one, get one free. For more information on the Indoor Aquatic Center, stay tuned to the Indoor Aquatic Center Facebook page.

Walk with Me Tennessee Programs Awards Grand Prize Winner

Congratulations to grand prize winner, Lynn Carter, who received a two-night stay at Fairfield Inn in Sevierville, Tennessee, two combo passes to all Ripley’s attractions (including the Aquarium in Gatlinburg) and two tickets to the interactive museum, WonderWorks, located in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee!

As a participant in the Walk with Me Tennessee walking program, Lynn Carter logged on to www.healthwalkers.com and walked across the state using a series of challenges featuring trails in Clarksville as well as “virtual trails” in other Walk with Me Tennessee pilot communities. As he/she completed challenges his/her name was entered into the drawing for the grand prize.

Interested in participating in our next session of Walk with Me Tennessee? Mark your calendars! The second session will begin March 11th, 2014 and end May 2nd, 2014.

Indoor Aquatic Center hosts Special Needs Nights

The Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department hosts Special Needs Nights at the Indoor Aquatic Center on the second Saturday of every month, through April 2014. Join us for next month’s event, Saturday, January 11th from 6:00pm-8:00pm.

The event is open to children and adults with mental and physical disabilities and their families.  Cost to attend is $1.00 per person, including family members who may not be swimming.

This event will allow special needs families to enjoy the pool while getting acquainted with the water or practicing previously learned water safety skills.
