Clarksville High Lady Wildcats defense smothers White House in 47-24 victory

Clarksville High School WildcatsDover, TN – Clarksville High School girls basketball team didn’t allow White House High School to break into double figures in any of its four quarters, December 27th at the Bill Craig Memorial Gymnasium in the first round of the Stewart County High School Christmas Tournament, as the Lady Wildcats rolled to a 47-24 victory.

The game was never in question, as Clarksville High (6-5) scored the first 10 points of the contest – including seven coming from Haley Bearden, who led all scorers with 16 points.

White House (2-6) would end the Lady Wildcats opening run with two free throws from Kristen Headrick, with 6.7 seconds left in the opening quarter to make it 10-2 after eight minutes of play.

The second quarter would belong to the Lady Wildcats Ke’Oshea Deaver, as she outscored the Blue Devils by herself, 10-8, while Clarksville High put together its best scoring period of the game with 20 total points to build a 30-10 halftime advantage.

The 10 points by Deaver in the quarter were her only points in the game.

The second half would see the Lady Wildcats score the first five points of the quarter to build its lead out to 25 points, 35-10, with 5:37 left in the quarter.

The third quarter would also see White House hit its first shot from the floor, that coming at the 4:52 mark on a layup from Headrick to make it 35-12.

Headrick would lead the Blue Devils in scoring with 10 points.

The two teams would play out the rest of the quarter pretty even, with White House outscoring the Lady Wildcats 6-5 over the final four minutes of the period to see Clarksville High take a 42-18 advantage into the final quarter of play.

Both teams played their benches of most of the final eight minutes, with White House outscoring the Lady Wildcats by one point, 6-5, in the quarter for the 47-24 final.

With the victory, the Lady Wildcats advance to a 4:30pm semifinal matchup on December 28th versus Camden High School – who had a first-round bye.

White House drops into the losers’ bracket and will face Northwest High School, who lost to Montgomery Central High School in their first-round contest, 56-41, at 1:30pm on December 28th in an elimination game.

The tournament concludes on December 30th.
